Toronto Blue Jays Notes, Quotes 2009-05-16
--In Thursday night's loss to New York, one of the turning points came in the seventh inning when with the game tied 2-2, one out and runners on the corners, John McDonald struck out. The Jays would go on to load the bases and not score in what turned into a 3-2 loss. Getting back to McDonald, manager Cito Gaston said a squeeze bunt was never an option. "I'm not big on the squeeze, I really hate to give up that run at third base," he said. "I don't know if I've ever squeezed."

--INF John McDonald got his first start of the season in Thursday's game, in the 36th game. He started at second base in place of Aaron Hill, who fouled a ball of his shin in Wednesday's loss. Hill, one of the hottest hitters on the club, was in the lineup as the designated hitter.

--2B Aaron Hill went 0-for-4 Thursday to mark the first time all season he has been held hitless in consecutive games. Hill was 0-for-2 in Wednesday's loss.

BY THE NUMBERS: 204 -- The Blue Jays' run total through 34 games, making them the first team in the majors to the 200-run mark.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "We do have to make some decisions. If he continues to pitch like that, there's no reason to take him out of the rotation. He was able to get through the seventh inning and looked like he was still strong. He comes to pitch." -- Toronto manager Cito Gaston, after Brian Tallet made his second consecutive strong start, beating the A's in Oakland.
