Toronto Blue Jays Roster Report 2009-09-07

--CF Vernon Wells, who has struggled all season when hitting at Rogers Centre -- he's .204 on the year -- had a three-hit afternoon Sunday to tie his season high. It was the eighth time that Wells has managed three hits in a game this season, but the first at Rogers Centre.

--Lost in all the Yankee mishaps Sunday was a three-RBI day from 2B Aaron Hill, which gave him 94 on the season with 93 of them coming when he played second base. The other one was in a pinch-hit appearance. That leaves him in a tie with Roberto Alomar for most RBIs by a Jays second baseman at 93, Alomar setting the mark in 1993. Hill already holds the Jays middle-infielder home run record with 31.

--LHP Brett Cecil allowed two home runs and only lasted 4-1/3 innings in his start Saturday against the Yankees. Over his past four starts where he's gone 1-3, Cecil has given up seven homers. He also hasn't made it through five innings in four of his last five starts and went exactly five innings in the other. What's of more concern to manager Cito Gaston, the fact he can't go five inning or the home runs? "It's the (number of) pitches for me," Gaston replied. "You can't give those guys that many walks, you can't pitch like that up here, throw that many pitches in that short a length of time. You can't do that and expect to win."

1B Lyle Overbay (sore left ring finger) did not play Sept. 4-6. He is day-to-day.

3B Edwin Encarnacion (sore left knee) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to Aug. 21. He was activated Sept. 5.

RHP Robert Ray (right shoulder strain) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to May 22. He began a rehab assignment with the Blue Jays' affiliate in the rookie-level Gulf Coast League on Aug. 28.

RHP Shaun Marcum (Tommy John elbow surgery in September 2008) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27 and was transferred to the 60-day DL on June 26. He began a rehab assignment with Class A Dunedin on July 6, but he was slowed in late July by a back ailment. He is out for the season.

RHP Dustin McGowan (right shoulder surgery in July 2008) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He had right knee surgery July 9, and he is out for the season.

RHP Jesse Litsch (strained right forearm) went on the 15-day disabled list April 14. He experienced discomfort while throwing on April 25. He had season-ending Tommy John surgery June 12.
